Flea Removal

Fleas are tiny creatures that may wreak havoc in the tranquil life of your pets and turn everything into a bad dream. They are tiny insects who can jump up to 100 times their height. They feed off the host’s blood and act as carriers of diverse other bugs. They may cause harsh itching, diverse allergies, tapeworm and even anaemia in your pets. At times this is often life threatening for your pet.

It is important to pinch the issue in the bud. At The Pet Lovers Network, you’ll find a spread of methods for eliminating fleas.

Flea shampoos

A shampoo, or “flea bath” is a good first attack on fleas for the pet which has many fleas apparent on its body. Shampoos are only effective for a day or less. They leave only a little residual chemical on the animal when properly used.

Flea dips

Flea dips are strong chemical washes to rid animals of not only fleas, but mites and ticks as well. These are impressive if your pet is a victim of flea bite.

Flea collars

Flea collars work one of two ways – by emitting a toxic gas, and by being soaked up into the animal’s skin fat layer. The noxious gas is usually only efficacious in the instant area of the head and neck.

Flea powders and sprays

Flea powders and sprays offer short term (2-3 day) defence against fleas, and with some products, ticks and mites too.

Spot-on treatments

These products are applied between the shoulder blades of the pet, and usually last about one month. Spot-on treatments are useful for adult fleas. Some include ingredients to inhibit the larva from coming forth from the flea egg and some are active against larval development as well. Frontline Plus is one such product that kills both adult fleas and the eggs too.

Oral medicines

These medicines are critical to destroy the flea life cycle and stop the flea problem when used with flea adulticide treatments.

It is usually best to ask your vet about the best treatment for you pet, we’ve found that the spot on treatments are both really convenient to use and effective in controlling fleas in both dogs and cats. They’re applied each month and this regular use will typically keep all signs of fleas away.
