It’s time for some Fun Ferret Facts. It’s always interesting to know the quirks of different pets and the Ferret has a fun and thriving history. Hopefully you found them as interesting as I do.
Their great to use to improve your ferret knowledge, test your children, or even use in a quiz. Let’s dive right in…
– A male ferret is called a Hob where as a female ferret is called a Jill. A young ferret is termed a kit or kitten.
– It’s easy to train ferrets. They have been used in hunting, to carry wires along pipes on oil rigs, and even ferret racing. Therefore training your ferret to use it’s litter box so be fairly simple. Know the art of ferret training by head over here… How to Train a Ferret
– A ferret is usually around twenty or so inches long. Although the men can be double the length of the females.
– Ferrets are carnivorous. They primarily eat protein based foods with the minimum of fibre ypes ones!
– No trying it for yourself: An English pub game called ferret legging was once enjoyed throughout the land. Two men tie their trouser around the ankles and then after popping a ferret inside would tie them tight at the waist. The ferret would almost certainly give them a good bite. The last man standing was declared the winner!
– Ferrets don’t have great vision, but they can hear and smell you a mile off.
– Ferrets are called Mustela Putorius Furo in Latin. See if you can remember that in a day or so!
– An average ferret litter is 6 – 8 but can be up to 12! Now that’s a lot of Kits!
– A ferret can live for eight years or more! You should therefore expect them to be mischief making for many a year!
– It’s thought that ferrets came from North Africa and have been domestic for nearly 2000 years!
– In the Thirteenth Century A Ferreter was a member of the English Royal Court. There was a point that highly regarded figures in the clergy kept ferrets!

– Bathing a ferret too much actually makes them smell worse! It’s also been known to cause skin problems and deplete their fur of essential oils!
