The Easiest Way To Overcome Distraction While Training Your Dog
A distracted dog can cause a difficult daily walk. By training your dog to be relaxed around new things you can attain a less complicated time when out walking him. Dogs, folk, cars and bikes are among some of the things that distract dogs while out and about. The nice news is that most distracted behaviour can be changed by following the exact same process for each.
The final target with a distracted dog is to prompt that he looks at you where he would normally lose interest in you utterly. You can encourage and buttress this look with positive dog obedience training.
To train your dog to look directly at you, simply fortify it when he does it naturally. This is done with either a praise word or clicker followed by a tiny and flavorful treat. Begin in an area of low distraction and when he's frequently taking a look at you introduce a cue word as his eyes reach your face. Something easy will do, “focus” or similar. You may quickly be well placed to provoke the look by bringing the cue word forward continuously.
When your dog examines you on command you are prepared to move into areas with more distractions. Take things at your dog’s pace and only introduce the distractions that you think he can handle. You can continuously build him up to having a look at you when asked to in all scenarios.
While out dog walking on the leash, it is important to help a relaxed state in your dog. If he attempts to greet other dogs or folk when he's over excited then he will see the excitement as rewarding. If he does try to jump up when greeting simply don't permit him to greet. Move back and create space between you and ask for his attention, then only as he relaxes move closer so that he is able to greet. This will need repeating a lot initially but with consistency it should be habit inside one or two weeks.
