Create Poisson Paradise For Your Fish

Fish didn’t always used to be this pampered. Back in the day all we generally had was the iconic spherical goldfish bowl with a plastic plant or two and maybe some aquarium gravel (did you know that dark gravel makes your fish appear darker but also brighter?). Things are different now, however. Now, however, our fish have it made; pretty plantlife and plastic castles are more or less the norm.

Aquarium rocks are a staple of many modern fish tanks. A layer of pebbles or perhaps a few well placed and more sizeable rocks would all be appreciated by your fish. You can also get so-called “live rock”, which aids filtration in the tanks of marine fish. Not actually alive, live rock is in fact the skeleton (or skeletons) of dead coral. However, it can be somewhat expensive. Buying uncured live rock is a cheaper option but will require the use of a protein skimmer (and a little more patience on your part).

Getting aquarium plants online is a pretty good way of checking what’s available. However, as with anything you add to your aquarium you must always make sure that they’re safe and compatible with the fish species you intend to keep. Plants provide hiding places as well as better filtration for your fish. Filters and heaters can also be hidden by plants as long as you make sure not to impair their working. For a more low maintenance option synthetic plants can be used; just so long as they’re safe they require not further attention from you following installation.
