How to Take Care of a Green Iguana

Green iguana

When people talk about getting an iguana for a pet, they usually refer to the most common species, the “Iguana Iguana” or the green iguana.

Found in South and Central America, as well as other parts of the Pacific, the iguana has become very popular among pet owners in the United States and Europe in the past few years.

Young Green iguanas keep themself away from predators just because of their bright green color.  With its quick movements and sharp eyesight, the green iguana avoids capture quite easily.  In older age of green iguanas the color changes from bright green to muted green.

An iguana in the wild spends its day trying to find a sunny spot to lie on, feeding, and trying to escape from predators.

It is totally different case when iguana is in captivity.  Though there are no more predators to escape from, an iguana should be well taken care of by its owner.  Green iguana can be a popular pet, but taking care of it by no means is an easy task.

Let’s talk about some things to do when taking care of an iguana.

The green albino iguana may grow as large as 7 feet so iguana’s cage should be top priority of owner.

It is seen that iguana is contented with small pen, without ample space it will grow listless and will resulting to sickness and even vulnerability to infections.

You have to provide such kind of cage for your iguana in which it can freely move and climb.

Iguanas are very sensitive in nature so you should have to provide proper room for them to live.

3.    Good kind of heating device can be best to provide enclosure to your iguanas.

It is very difficult for iguanas to digest food properly in absence of heat.

If you are owner of iguana then you have to provide good source of UV lights.  For proper growth of iguanas you have to provide temperature between 26 to 35 degree C.  The spot light for this purpose is very helpful.

4.    If you have an albino iguana as et then you have to provide heat, light and darkness to it.

For albino iguanas the darkness of 6 to 10 hours is very necessry.  The cage of iguana should be shielded from lights from appliances and streetlights.

Any kind of pet wants interaction and care from it’s owner.  Green iguana wants proper love from you just like cats and dogs.  If you have an iguana pet then you have to take care of it properly, without proper care it will become sick and eventually die.
