Tips On Building A Home For Finches

An important thing to know about finches, regardless of the breed, finches love to fly. They like places where they can fly freely.  For pet finches, their home is a huge concern.

If you intend to breed them then the best thing to do is to keep finches in pairs.  In that case then make certain that you should meet the minimum requirement of a 30 inch cage.  Naturally more finches would mean a larger cage.  Finches stay out of the way of humans but finches never fly alone.

When building an aviary or cage for the finches, give them enough space to fly.  This keeps them strong, happy, active, healthy and comfortable.  It stretches their wings.  Remember that the cage size is also determined by the bird size and breed.  There are breeds of finches that are very active and you don’t need a huge cage for them.  A medium sized one will do if they are comfortable.  Your finches might breed if they feel comfortable enough in the place.

Finches come in all sizes.  If you own the tri-colored nuns, spice and java rice finches, they are bigger than the society, zebra and gouldians.  Obviously, a bigger cage is required.  Others that are extremely active like the waxbills need an even larger cage so they will be comfortable.

In building a home for your lovely pets, another thing to take into consideration aside from the size are what you put inside.  Toys like perches and swings may be lovely on their home but will do more harm than good of all it does is confine the finches.  Give them space to fly.  Place plants and perches on the sides in order to maximize the space.

Sunlight must be present in the right amount for the finches to get comfortable in their home.  Soft light must be available even at night.

It is important for finches to feel safe in their home. It is important for them to breed and thrive.
