Parrot Training And Care For A Happy Fit Bird

Parrots have always been my favorite pet. It was as a child that I started liking them. My aunty had a very talkative, amusing parrot. Since my husband died I have been quite lonesome. Looking back at older photgraphs, I happened to spot one of me as a young girl next to my aunties parrot. I decided that I would buy a parrot and this would help with my heartbreak.

I must admit I didn’t really know how to care and look after a parrot. I do remember my aunt telling me time and patience were needed. But patience was not my strong point. Thought I would go to the library to study up on parrots before visiting the pet shop. I knew a parrot would make a wonderful pet if cared for properly. In return the bird would give me company and enjoyment, just what I needed right now.

In the library, there were loads of good books but one in particular stood out. The book started me off from the basics such as making the cage large enough so that the bird could spread its wings. The bottom of the cage had to be lined with paper, cleaned and changed daily to stop food and bird droppings falling onto the floor, this was no problem as I always have the hoover going. I would need to purchase toys to keep it occupied, a perch and of course plenty of food, including a water bowl.

Reading on, the parrot would have to be washed once a week with water and dried with a towel. When the claws of the parrot grew too long, I was also advised not to clip them myself but to let the vet do it properly. The parrots diet would need to consist of fruit, vegetables, nuts and grain. Its water would have to be changed every day.

Wow, I never realized that there was so much to do when looking after a parrot. Yet I was not deterred from purchasing one, specially when I read it was necessary to talk to your parrot every day. For a bird, social interaction is vital and this was great as I was desperate for some company.

The next day I hurried to the pet shop. The man in the shop showed me a pretty Macaw with stunning colors of green and yellow. He also added to the tips that I was given with tips such as not using chemicals when cleaning the birds cage. Bought the cage, the accessories and of course the bird itself, all for a excellent price.

I have named my new parrot friend Dolly. We formed a deep bond within the same day. She is my new best friend and she goes everywhere with me in the house. I checked out the internet for more tips and advice on parrots. I have found a lot of information such as how to train them and teach them to speak.

There are loads of websites on parrots but a few in particular are my favorites. My house seems to be alive again with dolly keeping me optimistic. Buy a parrot yourself, they make great friends.
